Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has missed the Cleveland Browns’ last two games due to a right (throwing) shoulder injury.
The three-time Pro Bowler isn’t sure right now whether he’ll be able to get back in action in the Browns’ game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, or if he’ll have to miss his third straight contest.
Watson met with the media on Wednesday, and when asked if he has a chance to suit up against the Colts, Watson replied, “I think so.”
“It just depends on the process of the medical stuff and the treatment and the rehab that we’re doing day to day,” he said, via Hayden Grove of clevelanddotcom. “So, it’s up in the air for sure.”
Watson sustained the shoulder injury during the Browns’ game against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 24. He characterized the injury as a “strain” and “micro-tear” of his rotator cuff but says he’s improving, per NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano.
According to Siciliano, Watson compared the injury to a sprinter with a strained hamstring.
“They said it wasn’t anything worse than a strained rotator cuff,” Watson said.
“Day to day,” Watson added of his recovery timeline. “When it heals, its heals.”
Watson says he’s “not going to put the team in jeapordy if he can’t do certain things,” and that he’ll return to the field whenever he’s healthy enough to do so.
“It could be tomorrow, it could be Sunday, it could be two weeks from now. I’m not even sure,” Watson said. “I can’t put a timeline on anything right now.”
In three games this season, Watson has completed 65 of 102 passes (63.7 percent) for 678 yards and has four touchdown passes with two interceptions. He has also rushed for 83 yards and another score on 15 carries.
