CLEMSON — The Clemson Tigers are coming off a break with the bye week and are ready to start back the second half of the regular season.

Freshman defensive back Shelton Lewis spoke with the media earlier this week about his freshman season, coming to Clemson and more.

–The cornerback made his college debut in the first game of the season against Duke. Lewis was asked if there were any nerves going into this game and he said, “the preparation I put in with the guys on the team, knowing that the older guys are guiding me through, I felt good. There was no nervousness, I was just ready to play.”

–Lewis was originally committed to play at the University of Pittsburgh, but later decommitted and decided to come to Clemson. Early on, Lewis said he wanted to figure things out on his own but later realized Pitt was not where he belonged. “Something that led me to Clemson was the family atmosphere, building the connections through the people I knew here. Coming here, I feel like was the best decision for me and my family.”

–Cornerbacks coach Mike Reed is known as a coach that recruits players to play immediately, not to sit on the bench. Lewis knew that coming in. “Knowing that if you do right on and off the field then you will play, that’s a good feeling. It makes you want to handle your business.”

–Lewis and Khalil Barnes had the same mindset coming into Clemson and Lewis knows this is what connected them so fast. “We bonded quick because of the mindset we had coming in. We both were on the same page. We were going to do whatever it takes to see the field and for the team.”

Clemson travels to Miami Gardens, Fla., on Saturday to take on the Miami Hurricanes at 8 p.m. The game will be televised by the ACCN.
