Does Clemson or Miami Need the Win More? ESPN Analysts Weigh In

When Clemson (4-2, 2-2 ACC) and Miami (4-2, 0-2) face off on Saturday night, either the Tigers or Hurricanes will suffer a third loss before Halloween.

So, which team needs the win more?

ESPN analysts Sam Acho and Jordan Reid both weighed in on that question during College Football Live this week, agreeing that the Tigers need the victory more than the Canes:

Acho: “It’s Clemson for sure, and the reason why is people are trying to write off Clemson, Clemson isn’t writing back. Last year, Clemson had two losses and still made and won the ACC Championship Game. So, though Dabo says hey, if you’re not a real fan, the bandwagon fans, whatever, get out. But the fact is, there’s still room. Miami’s falling off. North Carolina, we think they’re good, but they still have some tests down the line. Florida State plays Duke. The ACC is still relatively open. But this win means everything.”

Reid: “Yeah, I agree. It’s Clemson all the way. And the last time Clemson has not won double-digits in a season was 2010. It’s a legacy and a pride thing. You don’t want to be known as that team that did not get to double-digit wins. You have Notre Dame, South Carolina and North Carolina coming up. So, if they lose this game to Miami, it’s going to be really hard for Clemson to get to double-digit wins.”

Clemson hasn’t lost three conference games in a regular season in 13 years, and Miami has yet to win a home conference game under head coach Mario Cristobal.

The Tigers are a three-point favorite entering Saturday’s game at Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. on ACC Network.
