Good News for FSU, Bad News for Duke
By: Staff Report October 21, 2023

During College GameDay this morning, ESPN insider Pete Thamel gave a couple of significant injury updates ahead of tonight’s big ACC showdown between two teams that are undefeated in conference play – Duke and Florida State.

Thamel reported that Duke quarterback Riley Leonard is “a true gametime decision” but “unlikely” to suit up against the Seminoles. Leonard has been dealing with a high ankle sprain.

“Duke quarterback Riley Leonard, I’m told, is a true game time decision in Tallahassee tonight. My sources say he’s still unlikely to play,” Thamel said. “But we’re going to see Leonard dress for warmups, go through warmups, and a decision is going to be made prior to the game. Henry Belin IV, who won his first career start against NC State last week, is expected to get his second career start today if Leonard can’t go.”

While that’s bad news for the Blue Devils if Leonard can’t play, Thamel reported some good news for Florida State on the injury front.

Star receiver Johnny Wilson has been dealing with a lower body injury but is expected to play tonight, per Thamel.

“For Florida State, the big news is Johnny Wilson, the 6-foot-7 receiver, is back after missing the Syracuse game last week,” Thamel said.

Kickoff of tonight’s game between No. 16 Duke (5-1, 2-0 ACC) and No. 4 Florida State (6-0, 4-0) at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee is set for 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
