Swinney Asked if Any Consideration of Benching Klubnik

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney held his Zoom conference call with the media on Sunday evening following the Tigers’ 28-20, double-overtime loss at Miami on Saturday night.

Swinney was asked if there’s any consideration of benching starting quarterback Cade Klubnik, given the sophomore’s ball security issues (eight fumbles, three interceptions this season) and the lack of situational awareness in certain big situations.

“No. Cade gives us the best chance to win,” Swinney said. “We really believe that. I mean, he made some amazing plays, and his good is really, really good, we just gotta grow through some growing pains with him. I really think he’s going to be a great one, and he made, like I said, some big-time plays. But just definitely some miscues as well. So, gotta just kind of grow through it with him right now. That’s where we are But we feel he gives us the best chance.”

Klubnik went 18-of-34 passing for 314 yards and two touchdowns with an interception against Miami.

For the season, the former five-star prospect has completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 1,684 yards and 13 touchdowns with three interceptions while also rushing for 93 yards and three mores scores.
