Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media following the Tigers’ 28-20, double-overtime loss at Miami on Saturday night.
Swinney addressed the situation with starting defensive end Xavier Thomas, who did not play against the Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium.
Prior to the game, The Clemson Insider reported that per sources, Thomas found out Thursday that he would have to miss the Miami game, and the 6-foot-2, 245-pounder was serving a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules but is expected to be back next week.
Swinney was asked for an update on Thomas after Saturday’s game.
“He was out. He had something pop up this part of the week,” Swinney said. “Had a violation of team rules, so he was out. He’ll be back Monday. Could’ve definitely used him, for sure. But he’ll be back Monday and ready to go against NC State.”
A sixth-year veteran, Thomas started Clemson’s first six games this season, tallying 13 tackles (three for loss), two sacks, a pass breakup and seven quarterback pressures.
