MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Emotions are high in football, and it cranks up to another level after losses. The scale runs out of space when a team loses in double overtime after countless self-inflicted nightmares.
That was the case for the Clemson Tigers, who have to look in the mirror after their loss to Miami. There was still a shot to reach the ACC Championship, and that hope was raised with losses for Duke and North Carolina Saturday, but the Tigers’ collapse in Hard Rock Stadium erased it in an instant.
With three losses on the year, a championship is off the table for Clemson and that’s a reality they have to accept. An emotional Dabo Swinney spoke to the media after the game, and went on for multiple minutes about what he’s feeling in this moment.
The Tigers are one of many programs that employ sports psychiatrists to help both players and coaches. and Swinney gave an emphatic answer about their role in the program.
“We’ve got him. He’s probably on suicide watch right now. We got him but again, sometimes, things don’t go your way,” Swinney said.
Clemson’s head coach went on to talk about how he’s focused on moving forward, but it’s a lot of emotions that the Tigers have to work through with at least five games left in the season. Disappointment, anger and many more describe the feeling around the program after the 28-20 defeat, and Clemson has to collect themselves with a game in a week against N.C. State.
