Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave a number of injury updates during his weekly Tuesday press conference, including one on starting safety R.J. Mickens, who will be out for this weekend’s game.
As for another starter on the defensive side of the ball, Swinney said he is “not sure yet” whether defensive end Justin Mascoll will be able to play in Saturday’s game at NC State.
Swinney said Mascoll is day to day.
“Today’s the first day in pads, so we’ll see where he is today,” Swinney said.
Aside from Mickens, Swinney said the only other player who is definitely out for the NC State game is wide receiver Antonio Williams, who injured his toe in last Saturday’s game at Miami after returning from a three-game absence due to an ankle injury.
Swinney hopes the Tigers can get Williams back at the end of the season, but he’s week to week right now. Williams has started all four of the games he’s played in this season.
“He’s going to be out for a while unfortunately,” Swinney said. “We got him back (at Miami)… He made some nice plays. But it’s not his ankle, so that’s a positive. It’s more kind of underneath his toe area. So, he’s probably going to be a few weeks. So hopefully we’ll get him back maybe end of the season, the last couple games. I don’t know. We’ll just have to see how he responds.”
Saturday’s game against the Wolfpack at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff on The CW Network.
