Swinney Gives Wednesday Injury Update on Starting DL

Meeting with the media Wednesday evening following Clemson’s practice, head coach Dabo Swinney gave the latest injury update on a starting defensive lineman.

Swinney told the media Tuesday that defensive end Justin Mascoll was day to day, with Swinney saying he was “not sure yet” whether Mascoll would be able to play in Saturday’s game at NC State.

On Wednesday, Swinney was asked for the latest on Mascoll’s status and said he’ll be a game-time decision for Saturday.

“Still kind of day to day,” Swinney said. “Getting better, so hopeful. But still day to day.”

A sixth-year veteran, Mascoll has started all seven of Clemson’s games so far this season while recording 20 tackles, three tackles for loss, a pass breakup, three quarterback pressures and the first forced fumble of his career.

Mascoll notched a tackle for loss at Miami last Saturday, when he became the sixth player in Clemson history to appear in 60 career games. The 6-foot-4, 260-pounder from Snellville, Ga., entered this season with 86 tackles (9.0 for loss), 2.0 sacks, four pass breakups and a fumble recovery over 53 games (13 starts).
