Swinney on Shipley’s Injury

Following Saturday’s 24-17 loss at NC State, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney commented on the injury to Will Shipley, who was banged up and left the game after catching a swing pass and racing it 11 yards to the Wolfpack 1-yard line in the second quarter.

It was an ugly hit that had the All-ACC running back on the ground for several minutes being checked out by trainers. Shipley then walked off the field on his own and to the training tent before leaving the playing field and going to the Clemson locker room.

Shipley did not return to the game, and after the game, Swinney was asked how Shipley is doing.

“I’m not sure,” Swinney said.

“I think they did some X-rays, maybe on his neck and stuff, but I haven’t gotten any results,” Swinney later said. “I was just told he was definitely out of the game.”

A Clemson spokesperson said Shipley was evaluated on-site and did not have to be transported off-site for evaluation.

A junior, Shipley had 21 yards on six carries and two catches for 20 yards prior to leaving the game.
