Bad News for Notre Dame

Bad news for the Notre Dame football team on the injury front ahead of Saturday’s game against Clemson.

The Irish have lost a breakout weapon on offense for the rest of the season. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman announced Monday that tight end Mitchell Evans suffered a torn ACL in the team’s win over Pitt this past Saturday.

Evans leads the Irish in receptions (29) and receiving yards (422) this season.

“Mitchell Evans will be done for the season,” Freeman said, via Irish Sports Daily. “He will have surgery in the next week or so, depending on when the doctors decide to do it. He tore his ACL, and he’ll be out for the season.”

A junior from Ohio, Evans had five catches for 66 yards against Pitt before going out with the injury. The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder had a career-high 134 yards on six catches against Duke on Sept. 30.

Clemson will take on Notre Dame this Saturday at Death Valley (12 p.m., ABC).
