Lawrence Unbothered, Respects ‘Terrible Towel’ Backlash After Win

A former Clemson Tiger star faced a lot of criticism from Pittsburgh Steelers fans for his comment about the ‘Terrible Towel’ during the week, but he responded with a victory in Acrisure Stadium.

Lawrewnce called it a “little yellow towel” and that lit a fire under Steelers fans and even former players about what was seen as disrespect towards the Pittsburgh franchise. None of that mattered Sunday, as Lawrence came in and threw for 292 yards and a touchdown in a 20-10 win. His lone touchdown pass was to a fellow Clemson great in running back Travis Etienne Jr.

Following the game, CBS Sports reporter Bryan DeArdo asked Lawrence about the midweek comment. He was candid, but more focused on the performance his Jaguars delivered.

“I don’t really care about taking that (out of context). Fans do that. It’s part of what makes this game great. You want to hate your opponent when they come in and make it as hard as possible. I totally understand that. I hope our fans do that in Jacksonville too so no problem with that,” Lawrence said.

With the win, Jacksonville moves to 6-2 on the year, in sole control of the AFC South. It’s interesting to note that he expects the same out of Jaguars fans in regards to the energy brought by Pittsburgh fans. There’s a mutual respect, even if Lawrence had to handle business Sunday.
