Herbstreit Recognizes Swinney, Tigers After Week 10

Kirk Herbstreit recognized Dabo Swinney and his Clemson football team via social media this week following the program’s upset win over Notre Dame this past Saturday, and ESPN’s lead college football analyst also showed some love to one of the Tigers’ stars in Saturday’s game.

Each week, Herbstreit takes to X (formerly Twitter) and names his top performing teams, players and coaches from that particular week of the college football season.

This week after Week 10, Herbstreit ranked Clemson at No. 4 on his list of top performing teams, behind Washington (win at Southern Cal), Alabama (win vs. LSU) and Oklahoma State (win vs. Oklahoma).

With Saturday’s 31-23 victory over then-No. 12 Notre Dame at Death Valley, Clemson improved to 29-12 against AP Top 25 teams in the College Football Playoff era (since 2014). Clemson is also now 21-11 against AP Top 15 teams in that span.

Herbstreit also ranked Swinney as the No. 2 coach of the week behind Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy.

Of course, on Saturday, Swinney earned his 166th career win to pass Frank Howard for sole possession of the Clemson record for career head coaching wins.

Swinney also improved to 4-2 all-time against Notre Dame, and Swinney earned his 38th all-time victory against AP Top 25 teams. Swinney’s 38 wins against the AP Top 25 are the second-most of any coach — active or inactive — since 2009.

In addition, Herbstreit recognized Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. for his stellar performance in the Notre Dame game, with Herbstreit ranking Trotter at No. 4 on his list of top performing players behind Washington defensive end Zion Tupuola-Fetui, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe and the Washington offensive line/running back Dillon Johnson.

Against Notre Dame, Trotter recorded a game-high 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and an interception, which he returned 28 yards for a touchdown. In doing so, he became only the fifth FBS player (and second Power Five player) since 2005 to post double-digit tackles, at least 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 or more sacks and a pick-six in a single game.
