Recruiting Insider: Returns from a Critical Weekend

We wanted to pass along some feedback we have received from a number of sources since Clemson’s big recruiting weekend.

We are told the returns were very positive from this weekend’s visitors.  The staff was able to reinforce the message to the recruits that Clemson can still beat the best teams in the nation. They were also able to see a great atmosphere in Death Valley.  If you saw Dabo Swinney’s message on the field to Molly McGrath, he talked about how it is a great time to buy stock in the Tigers. Let’s just say that message wasn’t just for the fans.

This was just as big of a recruiting weekend for Clemson as the FSU weekend. With a ton of high-level offers in town, the Tigers showed out and the overarching reaction from the recruits in attendance was “I was blown away” and we heard that from multiple recruits.

The 2024 class continues to build a bond as strong as we’ve seen from any of Clemson’s previous recruiting classes. Many were on hand again this weekend. Every time they get together, the bond grows even stronger.

One of the keys to the Tigers’ success on the field has been their ability to hold recruiting classes together. With very few exceptions, once a player commits to Swinney, they stay committed. Some on the outside of the program have wondered if the 2024 class would hang together. Early signing day is just about six weeks away. Hopefully we will see the bond grow even stronger as they win a championship together in the future wearing the Paw.

Top DL Target Blown Away by Clemson Visit

Southern (Durham, N.C.) 2025 four-star DL Isaiah Campbell was in town, and he couldn’t stop talking about the Clemson visit.

It “blew his socks off” and the connection with Nick Eason clearly plays a heavy role for him and his decision. Campbell told TCI he’s pinpointed a spring decision, and the Tigers just solidified their spot in the mix.

Tigers in Top 3 for Newly Offered Safety

Douglass (Atlanta, Ga.) 2025 four-star safety Jontae Gilbert says his interest in Clemson has gone up after Saturday, and the Tigers gave him a lot of excitement when talking about his defensive versatility. They would want to try him all around the secondary.

He tells TCI that Clemson is in his top three, and he had already known the offer was coming – he just needed to be on campus for it to be official, and he got it Saturday.

Clemson Piques Interest of 4-star Virginia LB

Eastern View (Culpeper, Va.) 2025 four-star linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh said that Clemson has “always been up there” in regard to his recruiting and the lineage of Tiger linebackers piques his interest.

Clatterbaugh is planning to release a top-five schools list after his high school season, and it’s safe to say Clemson will be in that group.

Tigers Making Strong Early Impression on These Linemen

Clemson has started early with two linemen. Cass (Cartersville, Ga.) offensive lineman Kail Ellis in 2026 and Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) defensive lineman Bryce Hurst in 2028 were both in attendance Saturday and spoke very highly of the visit.

It’s still very early for Hurst, but he has the Tigers in his top five, so their impression was received quickly. It’s the same for Ellis, and he said that the Clemson coaches practically told him he’ll be offered next summer.

’25 Commits Putting Their Recruiting Caps On

The guys already committed in the 2025 class are just as strong recruiters themselves as Sammy Brown and co. in 2024. Campbell, who we mentioned earlier, said that new Clemson commit Easton Ware was very vocal about adding him to the class.

Dabo Swinney and his staff have some extra help, that’s for sure.

’25 WR Target Makes Return Trip to Tiger Town

Clemson played host again this past Saturday to one of the select receivers in the 2025 class with an offer from the Tigers.

Buford (Ga.) High School’s Jordan Allen returned to campus for the Notre Dame game. It marked his second gameday trip to Tiger Town, as he also took an unofficial visit for the Florida State game on Sept. 23, when he became just the second 2025 wideout to score a Clemson offer.

We’ll have a full story on Allen’s visit later, but he really enjoyed it Saturday while witnessing the Tigers’ 31-23 victory over the Fighting Irish.

“It was a great time just getting back up there,” Allen told TCI. “Great energy. It was a great game. Huge win for them. They really showed the world what kind of team they are.”

Allen told TCI that the Tigers are “definitely up there” in his recruitment after his latest visit to what he called “a great place” in Clemson.

The speedy 5-foot-8, 170-pound junior lists close to 20 total scholarship offers. Along with his two Clemson visits, he’s been to Duke, Tennessee, UCF, UNC, UGA and Auburn this season, and he plans to return to Tennessee for its game against Georgia on Nov. 18.

Virginia ATH Very Impressed by First Clemson Visit

Among the notable young prospects that Clemson hosted for Saturday’s game was Huguenot (Richmond, Va.) 2026 athlete Markel Dabney.

It marked the first visit to Clemson for Dabney, a 6-foot-1, 208-pound sophomore with more than a dozen offers.

Dabney told TCI that he “enjoyed every single bit” of the visit. He certainly wasn’t disappointed by his first experience at Death Valley, saying “the atmosphere, the fans, just the whole stadium was electrifying!”

The visit only increased Dabney’s interest in Clemson, and the interest appears to be mutual. According to Dabney, the Tigers told him that he’s “one of their top guys on their list for 2026.” He plays multiple positions for Huguenot but believes Clemson is looking at him primarily as a linebacker.

Dabney’s offer list includes schools like Arizona, Duke, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
