An NFL legacy recruit from Maryland with multiple power conference offers returned to Clemson earlier this season.
Loyola Blakefield (Towson, Md.) 2025 long snapper/tight end Hunter Solwold was back on campus as an unofficial visitor for the Tigers’ 17-12 win over Wake Forest on Oct. 7.
Solwold raved about the visit with nothing but positive things to say about Clemson and his experience.
“The atmosphere in Death Valley was electric,” Solwold said to The Clemson Insider. “The crowd cheers and hangs on every play. It is really a fantastic football environment. Lots of history there.”
Solwold made the trip to Tiger Town with his father — former NFL long snapper/tight end Mike Solwold, a two-time Rose Bowl champion at Wisconsin who went on to win a Super Bowl title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2002 season.
Hunter said his dad “really enjoyed” the Clemson visit as well.
“He was impressed with the football program on all levels,” Hunter said. “We especially appreciated the hospitality from Coach (Bill) Spiers. We felt so welcomed all day.”
The Tigers are primarily recruiting Hunter as a long snapper, and he spent plenty of time during the visit with Spiers, Clemson’s director of special teams.
“He said they are very interested in me and would love for me to be a Tiger,” Hunter said of what he heard from Spiers. “This sure made my day!”
Hunter is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 long snapper in the 2025 class by Kohl’s Kicking. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound junior holds football offers from Virginia Tech and Maryland, as well as a Division I lacrosse offer from St. Bonaventure University.
Hunter’s visit to Clemson for the Wake Forest game this season marked his third time on campus, as he also attended the NC State game last season and participated in the Dabo Swinney Football Camp this past summer.
Receiving an offer from Swinney’s program, Hunter said, “would mean the world” to him.
“The coaches are so accomplished and I hold them in high regard,” he said. “The culture, atmosphere and family team environment is truly very special. I really can understand why Clemson is ALL IN.”
