CLEMSON – Injuries have plagued Clemson during the 2023 season, but it wasn’t going to stop them from handling business and getting a win over No. 12 Notre Dame.
Possibly the greatest example of that Saturday was freshman wide receiver Tyler Brown. In the game against NC State, he got incidentally poked in the eye and then he’s dealt with a lingering shoulder issue.
Nonetheless, he’s worked back into the grooves and took the field for the Tigers in Death Valley. For Brown, it comes with the territory and these nicks won’t stop him.
“The game of football is going to come with bumps and bruises, man, but you know, as long as I can go out there on that field, I’m gonna do my best to go out there,” Brown said.
On top of the aforementioned issues, he was dealing with a foot issue during the week leading up to the Irish. He detailed a plan where the training and coaching staff helped him be ready for Saturday.
“I was going through a little foot injury at the time. As I said, bumps and bruises come with the game but I wanted to make sure my foot was ready for Saturday and I played a good bit of snaps so I believe that plan really worked out for me,” Brown said.
Once game day came around, Brown was ready to play and those “good bit” of snaps were crucial. While battling through these issues, he still made an impact.
Late in the first half, the Tigers marched into the red zone and he got open over the middle. Quarterback Cade Klubnik delivered a strike and his nine-yard touchdown made it a 17-6 game. It was a moment of relief, and Brown said it might’ve helped the vision too.
“Definitely started seeing a little clearer once that touchdown happened for sure,” Brown said.
On the ensuing defensive drive, Clemson came away with a pick-six that made it an 18-point game. That swing started with Brown. If it wasn’t for his willingness to battle through injury, the game might’ve gone differently and his toughness is something to thank for the win.
