Griffin Explains What Happened on Offer Call from Swinney

CLEMSON – Clemson safety Kylon Griffin posted his first career interception last Saturday, which helped the Tigers salt away their victory over Notre Dame.

Brought into the spotlight following the interception, Griffin opened up about his recruiting process and his path to becoming a Clemson Tiger.

Originally committed to Mississippi State, Griffin’s plans sporadically changed when he was dropped in close proximity to signing day. The freshman described the call that locked in his future plans. “I was at my high school basketball game when Coach (Mickey) Conn called me. He gave the phone to Coach [Dabo] Swinney and my heart dropped. I was driving with my little sister in the car, and I dropped my phone in the little crease in the armrest. My sister got it out just in time when we got home, and he offered me a scholarship.” Griffin’s phone remained lost in the crease for a good 20 seconds and it was in the middle of Dabo Swinney talking.

Being dropped from the recruitment process by Mississippi State was out of the blue, but the safety had a calm perspective on things. “I try to look at the bright side of everything that goes on in my life. Everything happens for a reason.”
