Among the notable young prospects that Clemson played host to a couple of weekends ago was Huguenot (Richmond, Va.) athlete Markel Dabney.
The class of 2026 recruit attended the Tigers’ 31-23 victory over Notre Dame at Death Valley on Nov. 4.
It marked the first visit to Clemson for Dabney, a 6-foot-1, 208-pound sophomore with more than a dozen offers.
“I enjoyed every single bit of it, from when I got there until I left,” he told The Clemson Insider. “The atmosphere, the fans, just the whole stadium was electrifying!”
Dabney made the trip to Tiger Town with his father and grandfather.
“They said they enjoyed the game and that the atmosphere was ‘crazy’ and that the stadium was bigger than they thought it was,” Dabney said.
Dabney plays all over the field for Huguenot, lining up at multiple positions, but believes Clemson is looking at him primarily as a linebacker.
The visit to Clemson only increased Dabney’s interest in the Tigers, and the interest appears to be mutual based on what he heard from the staff while on campus.
“I’m very much interested in Clemson, way a lot more than I was before I visited,” he said, “and they said I’m one of their top guys on their list for 2026 so that’s great to hear.”
Clemson won’t begin offering 2026 recruits until next year, but Dabney already holds offers from plenty of other programs such as Arizona, Duke, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
