CLEMSON — Each week the media who cover the Clemson Tigers get the opportunity to hear from head coach Dabo Swinney and a few select players. They also get to hear from the opposing team and their coaches.
Here are a few of the best quotes this week from both Clemson and No. 22 North Carolina as they prepare for Saturday’s matchup at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Clemson.
UNC quarterback Drake Maye on the opportunity to play in a rowdy environment in Clemson: “They’re a great football school and a great football town, a great college town. They are going to bring some noise and it’s just a great opportunity for us to go into a road environment like that. I love playing on the road. I think that is one of my favorite things, going into a place that is rowdy and I’m just looking forward to it.”
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney on the Tar Heels: “Heck of a football team coming in. It doesn’t get easier. This is another elite quarterback. They’ve had a heck of a year. They’re coming off a big win and we’re coming off a big win so both teams will want the same thing.”
UNC head coach Mack Brown on the environment at Death Valley: “It will be a fun environment, but a tough environment. Dabo is one of the best coaches to ever do it. He is a Hall of Famer just waiting util he gets out to get in. We’ve got a very emotional game coming up at Death Valley.”
Clemson safety Khalil Barnes on Maye: “Drake Maye, there ain’t too much you have to say about that, everyone knows how good of a quarterback he is. He’s got weapons all around him. They’re a veteran team and they know what they want to do. It’s going to be a challenge for sure.”
Swinney on his respect for Brown: “I love Mack Brown, y’all know that he’s a great friend and someone that I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for. He is always tough to compete against his teams and they’re always well coached.”
Brown says Clemson is playing like Clemson again: “They’re old Clemson again. They are playing like a playoff team. They are protecting the ball. They’re running the ball so well. Cade threw the ball really well the other night against a Georgia Tech team that beat us. I sat there and watched it and said uh-oh the boys are back.”
Clemson wide receiver Beaux Collins says Wide Receiver U is back: “It’s been amazing, honestly. I didn’t feel like we went anywhere really. We were just taking a little break, but I feel like we’re back now for sure. I have no doubt we are going to uphold that standard.”
