During Friday’s episode of ACC Network’s ACC PM show, Mark Packer, EJ Manuel and Mark Richt made their picks for today’s game between Clemson (6-4, 3-4 ACC) and No. 20 North Carolina (8-2, 4-2).
Kickoff at Death Valley is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN. The Tigers are a 7.5-point favorite.
Packer and Richt picked Clemson to win, while Manuel went with the Tar Heels. Here’s what they had to say regarding their picks:
Packer: “They really don’t see each other very much unless it’s for an ACC Championship. It’s been a while since they’ve had one of those kind of games. The last time North Carolina beat Clemson in Death Valley was 2001, but they beat them by five touchdowns. Can Drake Maye put up enough offense? I think they can score, but they won’t score enough. I worry about Carolina trying to stop Clemson running the football. I’ll take the Tigers in a high-scoring, close game.”
Manuel: “I like Carolina because of Drake Maye, Omarion Hampton, the fact they can run the football and they can do it multiple ways as well. If the defense can be stout, stop Phil Mafah, confuse Cade Klubnik, get turnovers on this game, especially to try to quiet down that crowd on third downs, I like Carolina.”
Richt: “I just wish I could believe that North Carolina’s defense could do that. I don’t think they can do that. I don’t think they will do that. They’ve been struggling down the stretch… and they’ve struggled in the fourth quarter as well on defense. And Clemson has just kind of caught fire right now. I think Cade’s playing his best ball and they’re not giving the game away by turning it over. I think Clemson beats them.”
