CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was inspired by Nate Wiggins in the Tigers’ 31-20 victory over No. 22 North Carolina Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
“I always talk to these guys about whatever you do, you should do it in a way that inspires others… and man, that was inspiring,” Swinney said.
This was Swinney’s takeaway from Wiggins’ forced fumble that shifted the momentum to Clemson.
In the first quarter of Clemson’s victory, an explosive run from North Carolina’s Omarion Hunter threatened to bury the Tigers in a two-score deficit. Wiggins was discontented to give up on the play.
Instead, he chased down Hampton, stripping both the ball and a touchdown, ultimately sparking a scoring Clemson drive.
“It’s not easy to get to the end of anything that you do,” said Swinney. “Whatever you’re chasing, it’s hard, especially when you’ve had setbacks and adversity along the way, to keep going. These guys have really had a lot of resilience, and I’m proud of them for that.”
Clemson has another chance to showcase its heart and grit next Saturday when the Tigers visit Williams-Brice Stadium to take on rival South Carolina.
