Wednesday Evening Injury Updates from Swinney

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave some injury updates during his post-practice media availability Wednesday evening ahead of Saturday’s game against South Carolina.

In addition to telling reporters that junior receiver Beaux Collins will not play against the Gamecocks after tearing his plantar fascia in last Saturday’s game against North Carolina, Swinney said Wednesday that sophomore wideout Antonio Williams has practiced “a little bit” this week but his status for Saturday is still up in the air.

“He’s been practicing some,” Swinney said. “He’s getting better, getting better each day.”

Williams hasn’t played since injuring his toe against Miami on Oct. 21, when he returned from a three-game absence due to an ankle injury. He has 17 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns in four games this season after leading the Tigers with 56 catches and 604 receiving yards as a true freshman in 2022.

Swinney was also asked Wednesday for an update on junior offensive lineman Marcus Tate and fifth-year receiver Brannon Spector in terms of their progress.

“Both making good progress, and we’re hopeful that they’ll be ready for the bowl game,” Swinney said. “We’re kind of shooting for that.”

Tate started Clemson’s first eight games this season but has missed the last three games after injuring his knee in practice leading up to the Notre Dame game on Nov. 4. Spector, who hasn’t played in the last two games, has four catches for 25 yards in nine games this season.

Saturday’s game at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network.
