CLEMSON — Each week the media who cover No. 24 Clemson gets an opportunity to hear from head coach Dabo Swinney and a few select players, as well as the opposition.
Here are some of this week’s best quotes from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and players from both teams.
Swinney on the meaning of the rivalry in the state of South Carolina:
“If you’re somebody that just moves to this state, you’re not going to be able to live in those areas long without going, ‘Okay what’s going on around here? These people are crazy.’ You’re going to get sucked into it one way or another.”
Beamer said this rivalry is different than any other rivalry:
“This is the best week of the year. I’ve been a part of a lot of great rivalries in my time in coaching, but nothing is like this one.”
Clemson running back Phil Mafah on the thought of preventing the Gamecocks from bowl eligibility:
“That’s definitely a thought to think about, but it’s already juiced up as it is just being a rivalry game in that nature. It’s just one of those games you grew up wishing to play in.”
South Carolina running back Mario Anderson on the physicality of the rivalry game:
“Another physical game. It’s not SEC play, but it’s a very physical game and I know they’re going to give it their all and we’re going to do our best to give our all as well.”
Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik on the atmosphere of Williams-Brice Stadium:
“I am excited to get down there, and we love playing on the road. Great energy and they have a very loyal fan base and you know it’ll be a super cool atmosphere from the very start.”
South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler on his thoughts on the rivalry
“It’s an amazing rivalry, a fun time on the field. It’s a four-quarter battle you know like every game but specifically with this one. Our main focus is us and we got to play our best ball to win this game.”
Clemson center Will Putnam on the atmosphere at Williams-Brice:
“Any game, at the end of the game, win or lose, I always keep my helmet on running off the field. Yeah, they have their net and people are still throwing stuff trying to get through it.”
