Packer: Tigers ‘going to put a hurting on’ Gamecocks

During Friday’s episode of ACC Network’s ACC PM show, co-host Mark Packer pointed out a wild stat as it relates to tonight’s rivalry showdown between No. 24 Clemson and South Carolina.

“I saw this crazy stat. The Tigers have not allowed a touchdown at South Carolina since 2017,” Packer said. “Now, last time I checked, it’s November of ’23.”

Packer then made it clear who he sees coming out on top in this year’s game at Williams-Brice Stadium (7:30 p.m., SEC Network).

Both Clemson (7-4) and South Carolina (5-6) enter the contest riding three-game winning streaks, but Packer believes Dabo Swinney’s team will bounce back from last season’s 31-30 loss to the Gamecocks and that the Tigers will “put a hurting” on their in-state foe.

“I know the Gamecocks won last year. Slow golf clap, congratulations,” Packer said. “But as an alum and a father of two that graduated from Clemson, the pom poms will be out (Saturday). I think Clemson’s playing their best football of the year. They were impressive against Notre Dame. They destroyed a really red hot Georgia Tech team. (UNC quarterback) Drake Maye rolled in there, they spotted them seven and then they ran them out of the building.

“People talk about Columbia, South Carolina, tough place to play. They’re 7-3 in night games in Columbia. Dabo’s 11-2 against the SEC regular season last 13 they’ve played. Clemson’s got a better football team, they’ve got motivation, and I think they’re going to put a hurting on South Carolina (Saturday) night.”

Clemson, which leads the all-time series, 72-43-4, is a 7.5-point favorite going into tonight’s game.
