Did Clemson Get Respect in Latest Coaches Poll?

The latest US LBM Coaches Poll was released Sunday following Week 13 of the college football season.

Clemson (8-4, 4-4 ACC) is still not ranked in the Coaches Poll following its 16-7 victory over rival South Carolina on Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium.

The Tigers haven’t been ranked in the Coaches Poll since the one released on Sept. 17, when the Tigers were 2-1 and ranked No. 23 following a 48-14 win vs. Florida Atlantic on Sept. 16.

Clemson is currently among the teams outside the top 25 receiving the most votes in the Coaches Poll, now getting 64 votes, the second-most behind Toledo (68). Last week, the Tigers got 25 votes in the Coaches Poll.

Clemson concluded the regular season with four consecutive wins, including a pair of victories over teams that were ranked at the time they played in Notre Dame and North Carolina.

On Saturday, Clemson’s defense scored a touchdown and held South Carolina to 169 total yards of offense as the Tigers won their 73rd game in the series, 54th in Columbia all-time and eighth of the last nine in the series.

Clemson’s defense held South Carolina to 57 yards rushing, totaled six tackles for a loss, five three-and-outs and only allowed South Carolina to convert on one of 11 third down attempts. The 169 yards of offense were the fewest allowed by a Clemson defense in the series since 1989, when the Gamecocks totaled 155 yards.

Offensively, the Tigers piled up 219 yards rushing, including 89 from running back Phil Mafah, 80 from running back Will Shipley, and a career-high 52 from quarterback Cade Klubnik, who went 15-of-27 passing for 100 yards while guiding three scoring drives ending in field goals by Jonathan Weitz.

With the regular season completed, Clemson will now await its bowl destination, which is expected to be officially announced on Sunday, Dec. 3.
