Former Clemson QB Comments on Transfer Portal

A favorite of Clemson fans took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday with a comment about the NCAA transfer portal.

Former Tiger quarterback Chase Brice wrote that he “got clowned & questioned for “jumping schools”” during his college career, but pointed out that some players in today’s transfer landscape “are on college #5 and haven’t graduated”.

Brice spent three seasons (2017-19) as a member of Clemson’s football program and graduated from Clemson in May 2020 with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism management.

After moving on from Clemson, Brice threw for 2,170 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 starts at Duke as a master’s student during the 2020 season before transferring to Appalachian State, where he finished out his college career from 2021-22.

Brice started all 26 games in those two seasons for the Mountaineers. He collected Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and All-Sun Belt third team honors in 2021, and then earned All-Sun Belt third team honors from PFF in 2022.

Overall in his college career, Brice totaled 62 game appearances, 2,894 snaps, 9,451 passing yards and 73 touchdown passes.

Of course, Brice is remembered fondly by Clemson faithful for helping the Tigers erase a fourth-quarter deficit of 10 points against Syracuse in 2018 with Trevor Lawrence sidelined in his first career start. Brice stepped in admirably and engineered a 13-play, 94-yard game-winning drive in a 27-23 victory that gave Clemson a 5-0 record in its 15-0 national championship season.

Brice is now playing for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
