CLEMSON – Clemson is keying in on the offensive line through the transfer portal, and set up a campus visit with All-Conference USA right guard Keylan Rutledge.
The former Middle Tennessee standout played in 22 games over two seasons with the Blue Raiders and now he’s built a relationship with the Tigers staff ahead of a visit Sunday. Rutledge spoke to The Clemson Insider about his transfer recruitment, and what he’s expecting from Clemson.
“Just conversation that they want to meet me and get me up for practice to see the place and see if this is a fit. I’m really excited about Clemson and just to see if it’s the right fit and situation for me,” Rutledge said.
When the Tigers reached out to Rutledge, the conversations mentioned came from a new addition to the Clemson staff. Offensive line coach Matt Luke was the one that contacted Rutledge for the visit.
Luke is a well-respected coach and he’s wasted no time helping the Tigers on the recruiting front, especially in the transfer portal.
“That’s who I’ve spoke to since Tuesday he sounds like a great dude and obviously his résumé speaks for itself,” Rutledge said.
One of the reasons Rutledge is considering Clemson is the potential to play at the next level. He quickly made an impact at Middle Tennessee, and now opening the door to producing for the Tigers gives him an opportunity to get under the spotlight.
With Clemson’s notoriety and the Tigers coaching staff, Rutledge sees the possibilities before he arrives on campus.
“It plays a factor for sure there tons of talent that have walked through there and having the ability to develop the talent is huge,” Rutledge said.
Dabo Swinney and the Clemson staff are hosting Rutledge Sunday, and that’s when the Tigers will be making their pitch to keep his talents in town.
