The Clemson Tigers are fresh off taking down undefeated South Carolina Wednesday, and jumped on a plane the day after to head to Toronto and take on TCU. Fitting enough, the Horned Frogs are also undefeated and Clemson enters another tough non-conference test.
While the Gamecocks were led by a star, TCU is a completely different style. There’s five players on the Horned Frogs that average double figures through seven games and it’s a well oiled machine. Everyone in that group is juniors or seniors, further cementing the challenge.
The good news is this fits perfectly into a Brad Brownell matchup. Clemson prides itself in man-to-man defense, and it’ll have to guard every player on the floor accordingly given the scoring capabilities.
It’s key to note that TCU faced a much easier schedule until a thriller in their first true road game against Georgetown. Their strength of schedule ranks as No. 362 in the country according to KenPom.
Senior forward and Horned Frogs leading scorer Emanuel Miller put up 29 points to escape with the win, and he’ll be in the hands of the Tigers’ frontcourt to defend. PJ Hall could often draw the matchup, and he comes off four-block outings in two of his last three games.
Looking back at Clemson, it’s never easy to sustain winning streaks and sit as the lone unbeaten ACC team. No different than the Horned Frogs, the Tigers are seasoned and it’s a large reason why it rallied back over South Carolina.
Taking a trip out of the country to play is a challenge of its own, but Clemson has shown no sign of stopping in the face of anything through eight games. The Tigers and Horned Frogs tip off Saturday at 4 p.m., televised on FS1.
