The Clemson Tigers opened bowl practice and head coach Dabo Swinney held court Tuesday ahead of the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl matchup with Kentucky.
While the team is preparing to play, Clemson is “coaching up” the new staff additions according to Swinney. Matt Luke is taking over the offensive line duties while Chris Rumph is on the defensive ends.
It’s a quick turnaround for the new coaches, and Swinney is wasting no time getting the pair into the fold.
Swinney was asked who will coach both positions for the bowl game, gave an emphatic answer and talked about the signal adjustments because both know football well, but not the Clemson signals.
“Matt and Chris…he knows inside zone but he don’t know what we call it so,” Swinney said. “Some people say bye, some people say adios.”
Swinney went on to detail how the football language impacts this early time because every program is different with the wording used. Luke and Rumph will have someone with them during the lead-up to the bowl game, learning at an exponential pace to be ready for the Gator Bowl.
