Parker Feels Rumph’s Energy, Passion for Football

CLEMSON – The No. 22 Clemson Tigers returned to the practice fields last week to begin preparation for the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

Freshman defensive end T.J. Parker spoke with the media after practice on Tuesday to give his thoughts on new defensive ends coach Chris Rumph, the depth on defense and playing in his first bowl game.

–These are the first few days that the Tigers have gotten to work with new defensive end coach Chris Rumph. Parker was asked how Coach Rumph has been acclimating to the program over these first couple of practices and he said, “He came in saying he is going to coach us hard but love us even harder which I love… I can definitely feel the energy and the passion that he brings and the knowledge that he brings, and it is going to be good for us in the future.”

–There have been a few changes within the defense between players transferring and others declaring for the NFL draft. Parker said, “It’s next man up, we develop depth at every position so when somebody else leaves, that’s fine, we’re going to have somebody come in ready to play,” He added, “the standard is the standard when it comes to our defense and our whole team in general.”

–Parker will be playing in his first bowl game this year. The goal for Clemson is to finish with a win on the season to advance the record to 9-4. “This is our last one, we want to make it our best game…continue to get better and walk out with the win,” Parker said.

The Tigers travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to face the Kentucky Wildcats on Dec. 29. The game will kick off at Noon on ESPN.
