One of the crown jewels of Clemson’s 2024 recruiting class is Sammy Brown, and the Tigers formally locked in the five-star linebacker on Wednesday when college football’s early signing period began.
The Clemson Insider caught up with the prized prospect from Jefferson (Ga.) High School after he made things official and signed with Dabo Swinney’s program.
“It was very relieving to finally put the pen to paper and get this whole thing over with,” Brown said. “It’s been a long process, so to finally put the whole thing to rest is awesome!”
A coveted recruit ranked as a consensus top-30 player nationally, Brown committed to Clemson back in June and is one of the midyear enrollees in Clemson’s 2024 class.
Brown – who won the prestigious 2023 High School Butkus Award as the country’s top prep linebacker – heads to Tiger Town with a simple goal in mind entering his freshman year.
“I want to make an impact, whether that is on defense, special teams or on the scout team,” he said. “I want to, in some way, make a difference in making my teammates better.”
Brown was selected to play in the All-American Bowl on NBC and was named as one of six finalists for the organization’s Player of the Year award and one of five for its Defensive Player of the Year award.
An all-state selection each of his last three seasons at Jefferson, Brown amassed 153 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three blocked kicks and two interceptions as a senior. He also posted outstanding numbers as a running back during his prep career, finishing with 4,491 rushing yards and 68 rushing touchdowns.
Unfortunately, Brown was injured in his final high school game, but the good news is he avoided a long-term injury and is progressing well in his rehab.
“All I did was sprain my ankle, I got tightrope surgery two weeks ago to the day,” he said. “Recovery is going great and I’m already starting to jog and hop. Hopefully want to get healthy in time for the All-American Bowl (on Jan. 6).”
Now that he’s officially on board with the Tigers after signing, the nation’s top-ranked linebacker per ESPN can’t wait to get on campus and begin his Clemson career.
“I’m going to give Clemson everything I have,” he said. “I’m super excited to play under Coach Swinney and Coach (Wes) Goodwin and I’m excited to see what our class can do at Clemson.”
