Clemson’s return to Littlejohn Coliseum for the first time in 16 days was a successful one. The 18th-ranked Tigers jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 109-79 victory over Queens Friday night in Clemson.
The Tigers’ 109 points were the most scored by a Clemson team in regulation since they scored 120 against Charleston Southern on December 1, 1993. It’s also the most points scored by a Clemson team in a game since the Tigers dropped in 118 points in a double overtime win against Wake Forest on February 13, 2002.
This is the third time Clemson has scored 100 or more points under head coach Brad Brownell. The Tigers did it last year against Penn State in double overtime (101-94) and against The Citadel on November 6, 2018 (100-80). Obviously, the 109 points are the most for a Brad Brownell coached Clemson team.
Coming off a tough two-point loss at Memphis last Saturday, the Tigers showed the energy to make sure that feeling wouldn’t last against a Royals team that was struggling coming in.
Clemson’s first half was an offensive masterpiece led by center PJ Hall, who scored 20 points before the break. He finished the night with a game-high 27.
The Tigers (10-1) had eight players score in the first 20 minutes and held a 69-36 advantage at halftime, shooting over 70 percent from the floor.
The 69 points are the most Clemson scored in a half under Brownell, which also tied the program’s record for points in the first half. The last time the Tigers scored 69 points in the first half was against Boston College in 1976.
Clemson went on cruise control in the second half and easily secured their 10th win of the season.
Guard Joseph Girard added 19 points, while forward RJ Godfrey also scored 19 before Brownell emptied the bench. Godfrey had a career night with his highest marks in points (19), field goals made (8) and shooting percentage (88.8).
Clemson also got 13 points from Chauncey Wiggins on 5 of 9 shooting from the field.
As for Hall, Friday was his best field goal shooting percentage of his career when making 10 or more field goals. He was 11 of 13 (84.6 percent) from the floor overall.
Clemson goes on a week break for the holidays and returns to Littlejohn for a matchup against Radford on Dec. 29. That game tips off at 7 p.m., and will be televised on ACCN Extra.
