Former Gamecock, Current NFL Star Speaks Glowingly About Higgins

A former South Carolina and current NFL receiver spoke glowingly about Tee Higgins recently.

San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel joined Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show this week, and Samuel was clearly impressed – like everyone else – by Higgins’ incredible touchdown reception in the Cincinnati Bengals’ overtime win against the Minnesota Vikings on Dec. 16.

Samuel said on a scale of one to 10, Higgins’ catch is definitely a 10.

“That is nuts. Like, that is insane,” Samuel said. “For him to catch that ball, I mean – as we know, Tee Higgins got some real good hands, and the way he caught the ball and was able to still reach back with the awareness of where the goal line was – like, that’s nuts. Like Tee, you snapped with that one.”

Higgins, 24, is in his fourth NFL season with the Bengals after being drafted by the franchise in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Clemson, where he racked up 135 receptions for 2,448 yards and 27 touchdowns from 2017-19.

Higgins posted back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons for the Bengals in 2021 and 2022, and while he hasn’t been as productive overall this season (a contract year for him) due in part to missing time because of injuries, Samuel still believes Higgins deserves to be a No. 1 wideout for some team next year if he doesn’t re-sign with the Bengals.

“Uh, yeah. I think so,” Samuel said. “The way he’s been playing, and I mean, he’s been consistent every time he’s out there. Injuries happen, so you can’t do too much about that. So, I think he’s been so consistent ever since he’s been in the league and stepped out there and just been able to provide for his team.”
