Two former Clemson stars were recently recognized as the best NFL players when it comes to a couple of specific traits.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen identified 101 different traits and named the top player at each based on what he’s seen on tape in 2023 and the underlying numbers.
Former Tiger and current New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence was named by Bowen as the league’s most physical defensive lineman.
“With a massive 6-foot-4, 342-pound frame, Lawrence uses his physicality and play strength to create havoc on the defensive front,” Bowen wrote. “He’s a disruptive force who has 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks this season.”
Following a Pro Bowl and All-Pro season in 2022, Lawrence has put together another stellar campaign this season. Along with the aforementioned tackle and sack totals, the 26-year-old and 2019 first-round pick has posted 59 total pressures on the season as well as 19 quarterback hits and a couple of passes defended.
Meanwhile, former Clemson and current Atlanta Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell was named by Bowen as the NFL’s most physical player in coverage.
“Terrell is a competitive cover corner who will use his length to physically challenge wide receivers,” Bowen wrote. “He has eight pass breakups and 37 tackles.”
Terrell, a 2021 All-Pro, is now in his fourth NFL season after being selected by Atlanta in the first round of the 2020 draft. The 25-year-old has 239 total tackles, four interceptions and 42 pass breakups in his career.
