Mafah’s TD Gives Tigers Second-Quarter Lead Over Wildcats

After three straight punts following a field goal on its opening possession, Clemson’s offense got going early in the second quarter and found the end zone to put the 22nd-ranked Tigers ahead against Kentucky in the Gator Bowl.

Running back Phil Mafah plowed in from 1 yard out for his 10th touchdown of the season, giving Clemson a 10-7 lead with 10:17 left before halftime.

Mafah’s score capped a five-play, 59-yard drive, which featured three big plays — an 18-yard run by Mafah, a 14-yard completion from quarterback Cade Klubnik to wide receiver Troy Stellato and a 28-yard completion from Klubnik to tight end Jake Briningstool that set up Mafah for the touchdown.

Mafah had five carries for 32 yards at the time of his touchdown.
