According to multiple reports Brent Venables is expected to fill his defensive coordinator vacancy with a coach that Venables previously worked with at Clemson.
Venables and Oklahoma are planning to hire Zac Alley as the Sooners’ new defensive coordinator, according to reports.
Alley served as Jacksonville State’s defensive coordinator from 2022-23 following his time as the DC and linebackers coach at ULM in 2021.
Prior to ULM, Alley was Bryan Harsin’s co-special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach at Boise State. Before going to Boise State, Alley worked for four years (2015-18) as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Clemson, when Venables was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator.
Oklahoma and defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Ted Roof parted ways on Thursday. Roof, who was hired by Venables from Clemson in December 2021, spent the last two seasons with the Sooners.
