CLEMSON — The Clemson Insider sat down with Clemson freshman pitcher Olivia Duncan.
The Tigers’ 2024 campaign begins on Feb. 8 in Clearwater, Fla., against Missouri State at the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Clemson’s first 11 games will be on the road with the Tigers returning for their home opener on Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. against Ole Miss to kick off the Clemson Classic.
Here is an inside look at who Duncan is and her thoughts about playing for Clemson:
Where are you from? “I’m from Buford, Georgia.”
Tell us something about yourself. “I’m the youngest of three, I have two older brothers… My oldest brother went straight out of high school into the Marines for six years, and my other brother, who is the middle child, played football but he stopped after high school… My parents always told me I was the athlete of the family even though I was the baby… I’ve grown up playing softball since I was in tee-ball and I’ve always wanted to play college softball since I was 10, so it’s a big deal being here. It’s exciting.”
Tell us something about you that your teammates do not know. “I like to draw or paint. I’d say I’m pretty good at it… When I was little, I usually did that more than I played with Barbies, so it was just something I always did growing up.”
What do you like about Clemson? “I like the atmosphere that’s here. I think everything is very family oriented and I just love the campus. It’s so beautiful. All of the softball staff, and also in classes, I think everyone is very nice and they’re very welcoming for newcomers.”
Other than softball, what is your favorite sport to watch? “Football or basketball.”
Who is your favorite professional team? “I know I didn’t say baseball, but I do like the Braves. I’d say that’s my favorite since I’m from Georgia… I went to a few games growing up.”
Who is your favorite athlete? “I really like Serena Williams.”
What is your goal for this season? “Just to get better and gain more confidence on the field, especially since this is my first season playing at this level, and making my spot on the team.”
