Versatile Defender: ‘Definitely Have a Lot of Interest in Clemson’

Clemson has been showing interest in this standout defender from the Tar Heel State.

Asheville (N.C.) School’s Justin Rowe (pictured right) drew a recent school visit from Tigers co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Mickey Conn.

The interest from Clemson is certainly reciprocated by Rowe, a class of 2025 recruit who was an unofficial visitor for the Florida State game at Death Valley this past September.

“It’s definitely humbling to get some interest from Clemson – growing up, watching them like that. And I have great interest in Clemson,” Rowe told The Clemson Insider. “Obviously after going to the game and seeing and witnessing the game and the atmosphere that’s at Death Valley, I definitely have a lot of interest in Clemson and I’m hoping that they share that same interest in myself.”

Rowe, who has racked up more than a dozen offers, is being courted as a linebacker/safety by various schools. The versatile athlete said most are recruiting him as a linebacker, but a select few see him strictly as a safety.

“Being a linebacker/safety, I feel like I can cover well and come downhill to play the run,” he said, describing himself as a player. “So, I feel like they can get somebody who can be relied on to take care of different aspects of the game and be given many assignments at once. And obviously I feel as if I’m a hard worker and someone that can affect the game in many ways.”

Rowe believes the Tigers are looking at him as a linebacker. As far as Clemson’s staff, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound junior has been in contact the most with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Wes Goodwin.

Goodwin and Rowe were able to meet face to face when he was on campus for the FSU game.

“It was good to meet him,” Rowe said. “Obviously it was an unfortunate loss, but it was still a great atmosphere, a memorable atmosphere for sure.”

Rowe hopes to return to Clemson for a spring practice.

Schools that have offered Rowe include South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, Boston College, Wake Forest, Syracuse, North Carolina and NC State, among others.

He would certainly be thrilled to add the Tigers to that list moving forward.

“That would for sure mean a lot,” he said. “I always go back to that game visit, just seeing and witnessing it first person and obviously seeing the history and the caliber that Clemson is. Obviously they didn’t really have the best year last year, but I feel like they finished the year off strong and they’re finding their identity again. So, it would definitely mean a lot and definitely be in consideration.”
