Tigers Keep Rolling in Inaugural Season

As the inaugural season continues for Clemson Gymnastics, the Tigers competed in their first road meet in the ACC against North Carolina.

The Tigers set a new program record with an overall score of 196.550 and defeated the Tar Heels who finished the night with a 194.250 score.

Rebecca Wells was crowned all-around champion for the third time this season, with a season high score of 39.225. Lauren Rutherford (Vault – 9.925), Keilyn McCright (Beam – 9.900) and Brie Clark (Beam – 9.900 & Floor – 9.925) each won their events.

Bars

The Tigers began the night on Bars and posted a score of 49.150. Wells started off with a season high of 9.850. Kaitlin DeGuzman led the Tigers on the event with a 9.875. Both Lilly Lippeatt and Rutherford added to Clemson’s score each with a 9.825 with Eve Jackson finishing with a 9.775.

After the first rotation, the Tigers had the lead with a 49.150 to North Carolina’s 48.750.

Vault

The second event of the night for Clemson was Vault. Rutherford had a career high with a 9.925 followed by Molly Arnold and Madison Minner with a 9.775 and Trinity Brown gave the Tigers a score of 9.750. Both Wells and Jackson scored a 9.725 and one of their scores was not added to the team total. The Tigers totaled a score of 48.950.

Clemson led the Tar Heels after the second event with a score of 98.100 to 96.425.

Floor

The third event for the Tigers was Floor. Clemson finished with an overall score of 49.250. Brie Clark had the highest score on the event for the Tigers with a 9.925 followed by Arnold with a 9.875. Rutherford received a score of 9.850 and Maggie Holman a 9.825. Wells finished the floor score with a 9.775.

After 3 rotations, Clemson maintained the lead with a score of 147.350 to 145.100.

Beam

The final event for the Tigers in their first road meet was Beam. Both Clark and Wells had season highs to finish off the night. Clark scored a 9.900 with Wells adding a 9.875 to the total for Clemson. Keilyn McCright added a 9.900, tying her season record for the Tigers this year. Quinn Khul’s season high gave the Tigers a 9.800 and Jackson also added a 9.725 to the total for Clemson.

Clemson is back at Littlejohn Coliseum on Feb. 2 to take on the NC State Wolfpack. The meet will start at 7:30 p.m., and will be aired on ACC Network.
