The hot streak could continue for Clemson’s recruitment on the offensive line as the efforts to land a legacy recruit are paying off.
2025 four-star offensive lineman Mal Waldrep was on campus for the Elite Retreat, and the Tigers made a big impression to sure up their front in the future.
For Waldrep, this is the latest of many visits and he caught up with The Clemson Insider about the experience. He’s always spoke highly of Clemson, and this was no exception.
“It was amazing, everything stood out to me, Clemson sells itself,” Waldrep said. “When we were out on the field and Coach Swinney came up to me and asked me if I could see myself here, I said absolutely yes.”
That’s an important vision for Waldrep to have, and sharing that message to Swinney indicates where the Tigers stand in his recruitment. The other piece of the puzzle is offensive line coach Matt Luke.
The new coach for Clemson secured two commitments over the weekend, and also built a strong connection with the group of talented linemen in attendance. Waldrep said Luke is “too much fun” and the idea of joining the other commits is an interesting proposition.
“I liked visioning where everyone in that offensive line group was going to play. There were a few tackles and a bunch of interior offensive linemen I enjoyed bonding with those guys and getting to know them really well,” Waldrep said.
The process isn’t in a rush for Waldrep, but he made it very clear to TCI where Swinney and the Tigers stand at this stage in the process.
“They have absolutely increased their stock on me, I’d be a fool to say otherwise,” Waldrep said. “Let’s say top two, and not two.”
