Former Tiger Returning to Pro Football

This former Clemson star is returning to professional football.

Former Tiger running back Wayne Gallman has found a new home in pro football in the United Football League.

The UFL announced this week that Gallman has agreed to terms on a contract with a team in the league, the St. Louis Battlehawks.

Most recently, Gallman’s pro career has seen him spend time on practice squads with the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs in 2022.

His most recent game action in the NFL came in 2021, when he played in eight total games with the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings. He didn’t record a carry in two games with Minnesota but ran for 104 yards on 28 carries in six games with Atlanta.

Gallman has played in 61 career NFL games across stints with the New York Giants (2017-20), Falcons (2021) and Vikings (2021), rushing for 1,548 yards and nine touchdowns overall.

Before being selected by the Giants in the fourth round (140th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, Gallman was one of the most decorated and productive running backs in Clemson history from 2014-16, racking up 3,429 rushing yards on 676 carries to go with 34 touchdowns over 42 games (37 starts). The Loganville, Ga., native added 65 career receptions for 473 yards and two touchdowns.

The United Football League, the new spring professional football league resulting from the XFL/USFL merger, is set to kick off on March 30 with the 10-game regular season being televised on ABC, ESPN, FOX and FS1.
