Packer: ‘I Don’t Think Clemson’s Got an Easy Path at All’

ACC Network host Mark Packer gave some thoughts on Clemson’s 2024 schedule during a recent episode of the network’s ACC PM show.

Looking at the Tigers’ slate of competition next season, Packer said Dabo Swinney’s team “better be ready to go early” – beginning, of course, with the opener against Georgia in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Aug. 31.

“They get tested from the get-go,” Packer said of Clemson. “I mean obviously Georgia’s going to be the No. 1 team in the country leading into it, and if I had to guess – and I’m not an expert here with this stuff – I gotta figure Georgia’s going to probably be a double-digit favorite in Atlanta.”

After kicking off the 2024 campaign against the Bulldogs, the Tigers will host their home opener on Sept. 7 when they welcome Appalachian State to Death Valley.

“App State is never easy for anybody,” Packer said. “Just ask anybody in this league.”

Following that contest against the Mountaineers and then an open date on Sept. 14, Clemson will open its ACC schedule with a home game against NC State on Sept. 21.

“That NC State game is going to be a humongous thing, especially after the Wolfpack beat them last year in Raleigh,” Packer said. “That comes early.”

A couple weeks later, the Tigers will travel to Tallahassee for what figures to be a huge conference matchup against Florida State on Oct. 5.

Fast forward to the final month of the regular season, and Clemson will close out its ACC slate with consecutive road games against Virginia Tech (Nov. 9) and Pitt (Nov. 16).

“At Florida State… at Virginia Tech in November, at Pittsburgh in November. I mean you can get some crazy weather in November in those two fine cities,” Packer said.

“So, I don’t think Clemson’s got an easy path at all,” he added. “I think the Tigers are going to get challenged from the get-go.”
