Late Run Allows Clemson to Blow Hurricanes Away

CLEMSON — On a night when Miami was not going to let PJ Hall beat them, Chase Hunter and Joe Girard stepped and said they would.

Girard scored 18 points, while Hunter added 20 more, including four clutch baskets down the stretch in Clemson’s 77-60 victory Wednesday at Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Tigers closed the game with a 12-0 run, while holding the Hurricanes to 1-for-7 shooting down the stretch. They outscored Miami 29-6 in the final 9:50 of the game.

Miami went the final 3:54 without any points. The Hurricanes were led by Norchad Omier’s 18 points and Kyshawn George’s 13.

The win was Clemson’s third straight and improved its record to 17-7 and 7-6 in the ACC. Miami fell to 15-10 and 6-8 in the conference.

Hall did finish the game with 13 points and six rebounds, while Ian Schieffelin had 11 rebounds and five points. Jack Clark had eight points and six defensive rebounds.

Clemson rallied from six points down to grab the lead thanks to a 12-0 run with 3:54 to play in the game. During a five-minute stretch, the Tigers outscored the Hurricanes 17-3 to grab a 65-57 lead.

Miami had a six-point lead, 54-48, before Clemson went on its decisive run. Hunter hit two three-pointers from the corner during the stretch, while Schieffelin hit one from the top of the key.

Before that, the Tigers went more than five minutes without a basket during a point in which Miami was 6-for-6 from the field and built its six-point lead.

Trailing 45-40, the Hurricanes went on a 9-0 run to take its first lead since they were up 15-13 with 13:25 to play in the opening half. George’s jumper with 11:42 to play gave Miami a 49-45 lead.

Clemson held a 31-30 lead at the break. However, the Hurricanes scored the last six points of the half after the Tigers built a seven-point lead.

Girard scored 10 points in the first 20 minutes, while Hunter added eight. The Tigers were 7 of 17 from behind the arc. However, they missed six of their last eight attempts to end the half.
