Clemson Signee Makes History with Impressive Feat

One of the prized recruits in the Clemson football program’s 2024 signing class made history last week.

On Tuesday, tight end signee and two-sport standout Christian Bentancur of Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock, Illinois) tallied his 2,000th career point on the basketball court.

In reaching that milestone, Bentancur became the first high school athlete in Illinois history to catch 200 passes in football and score 2,000 points in basketball.

It’s an impressive accomplishment, and the moment when Bentancur achieved the feat was recorded by Northwest Herald (Crystal Lake, Illinois) sports writer Joe Stevenson:

Along with being an outstanding basketball player, Bentancur is coming to Tiger Town as a highly touted football prospect ranked as a consensus top 125-player nationally.

Bentancur concluded his prep career with 231 receptions for 3,867 yards and 51 touchdowns, finishing in the top five in Illinois high school history in receiving yards (second), receiving touchdowns (third) and receptions (fifth). As a senior — when he earned conference player of the year — he recorded 21 receptions in a single game against Wheaton Academy and five touchdowns in one game against Christ The King, the second-best single game figures in each category in Illinois high school history.

A two-year team captain and three-time all-area selection who earned all-state honors from multiple services as a junior and senior, Bentancur committed to Clemson on Jan. 13, 2023 and will enroll this summer.
