Which ACC player is Matt Miller most excited to see at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine?
That would be Clemson’s Nate Wiggins.
The ESPN NFL Draft analyst can’t wait to watch the 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback show off his speed when the combine gets underway from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis next week.
“I tell you, when Nate Wiggins gets out there running the 40-yard dash, I’m going to make my way down to the sideline with my stopwatch. I just want to see it. I just want to see Nate Wiggins’ speed in person,” Miller said this week during an appearance on ACC Network’s ACC PM show.
“There are rumors that he’s going to run in the 4.2-second range in the 40-yard dash. If he does that at 6-foot-2, that is absurd. It’s crazy talk.”
Wiggins garnered first-team All-ACC honors as a junior this past season after tallying 25 tackles (one for loss), a team-high nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one sack and two interceptions, including one he returned 46 yards for his second career touchdown.
One of Wiggins’ most memorable highlights in 2023 was his forced fumble in the Tigers’ win over North Carolina on Nov. 18, when he reached 22.1 mph to chase down the ACC’s leading rusher, Omarion Hampton, from behind 64 yards downfield to strip the ball at the goal line.
Miller believes Wiggins could very well be the speediest combine participant this year.
“I’ve talked to scouts who say he’s the fastest player on the team, and we saw it in that North Carolina game where he’s running down guys backside, like 50 yards behind the play,” Miller said. “So, I think there is a great chance that Nate Wiggins is the fastest player we see at the combine.”
Wiggins is one of six Clemson products invited to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, which will take place from February 26 through March 4.
Wiggins and other defensive backs are scheduled to take part in on-field workouts on Friday, March 1.
“Like I say, Clemson coaches say he’s the fastest player on that team,” Miller said. “To be the fastest player on a football team at 6-foot-2 is fantastic, and I cannot wait to see him work out in person.”
In his career at Clemson from 2021-23, Wiggins recorded 50 tackles (3.0 for loss), 24 pass breakups, three interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles, a sack and a blocked field goal over 34 games (18 starts).
Miller’s latest two-round mock draft, released in early February, projects Wiggins to be taken in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 35 overall pick. The 2024 NFL Draft will take place in Detroit from April 25-27.
