In early January, star running back Will Shipley declared for the 2024 NFL Draft following a stellar three-year Clemson career from 2021-23.

Now that he’s moving on to the next level, when could Shipley hear his name called in April’s draft?

ESPN NFL insider/draft analyst Field Yates weighed in on that during ACC Network’s ACC Huddle: NFL Draft Preview show.

“A guy that’s got the do-it-all ability, could probably handle some return duties as well. The kind of player who I think has a long shelf life in the NFL because of his versatility,” Yates said. “Maybe has a chance to be a third- or fourth-round pick depending on how Indianapolis goes for Will Shipley.”

Shipley is one of six Clemson products invited to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, which will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis from February 26 through March 4.

Shipley and other running backs are scheduled to take part in on-field workouts on Saturday, March 2, and Yates believes Shipley could help his draft stock with a strong showing from a speed standpoint.

“The big question with Will will probably be, what does the straight-line speed look during the combine in Indianapolis?” Yates said. “If he finds a way to crack the 4.4s, we could be talking about Will in a different vein after that process takes place.”

Shipley concluded his prolific Clemson career in the top 10 in school history in total touchdowns (33), rushing touchdowns (31), 100-yard rushing games (10), all-purpose yards (4,253) and kickoff return yards (904). He also finished ranked 11th in rushing yards (2,747).

In 2023, Shipley became the ninth player in school history to score 30 career touchdowns and the eighth player at Clemson ever to rush for 30 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder finished this past season with 827 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 167 carries to go with 31 catches for 244 yards and two receiving scores in 12 games.

“Kind of the face of the program in some ways over these past three seasons, and a guy who kind of brings it all to the table,” Yates said of Shipley. “Outstanding in the passing game, that much I think anybody who watched Clemson knows. But he’s kind of got this unique blend of good patience, he’s got some power to him.”

The 2024 NFL Draft will take place in Detroit from April 25-27.
