The 411 On Clemson’s Strong Senior Night Showing

CLEMSON – A celebration it was on Senior Night as the Clemson Tigers came out firing and effectively buried Syracuse early in a 90-75 win at Litttlejohn Coliseum Tuesday night.

Clemson took a 14-point lead with 7:48 to play, and the game’s drama was ended. Now all eyes turn to a massive matchup with Wake Forest Saturday to decided the final double-bye in the ACC Tournament. Here’s the 411 on the win and a great curtain call from the seniors.

-This was the quickest start in recent memory from Clemson at home, opening up a 16-5 lead. Highlighted by an 11-0 run, PJ Hall made two three-pointers and Joseph Girard III hit one of his own, forcing a Syracuse timeout. The Orange responded, but a 12-2 run to end the half put the Tigers up 42-30 at the break.

-What a final showing in this building for Hall. He scored 21 on 9-12 in the first half, half of the Tigers points before the break. Hall cooled down but still went on to finish with a game-high 25 points to close out his career at Littlejohn.

-Another night, another strong showing for the starting guards. Joseph Girard III and Chase Hunter combined for 38 points and seven assists. That’s an important trend to continue as postseason play approaches.

-17 assists on 32 made baskets was a strong mark for a memorable offensive outing. In his return to the lineup after missing a game with an illness, Jack Clark led the team with five assists.

-Three-point shooting was maybe the biggest difference in this one. As a team, Clemson shot 11-26 from behind the arc, good for 42.3 percent. It hasn’t been a strong suit at home, but it was on the final one of the season.

-In fitting fashion, Ian Schieffelin got his 10th double-double of the season in the final home game of season. He scored 16 points, adding 16 rebounds along the way. Five of those came on the offensive glass.

-Syracuse tried a lot of different options on defense. It was a heavy mix of man-to-man and the 2-3 zone. Clemson’s activity and motion made it difficult, and pump fakes froze the Orange often in the first half.

-Judah Mintz was impressive. Every time it felt like the Tigers were about to pull away, he hit a tough shot and often carried the Syracuse offense. He finished the game with 20 points, adding a team-high four assists.
