This is potentially bad news for the ACC and Big 12.
The College Football Playoff is reportedly considering a new revenue model that would benefit the SEC and Big Ten significantly more than the ACC and Big 12.
In talks regarding the future College Football Playoff format, the SEC and Big Ten are looking to get a larger share of the revenue, according to a report Friday from Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.
Dellenger reported that the SEC and Big Ten are aiming to divide approximately 58% of the base CFP revenue — leaving only approximately 31% for the ACC and Big 12 to split, and around 10% for Notre Dame and Group of Five teams.
“The difference in distribution between the two sets of conferences — SEC/Big Ten and ACC/Big 12 — will likely exceed $300 million a year,” Dellenger estimated. “The Power Two will earn around a combined $760 million versus around $440 million for the ACC and Big 12. Roughly $115 million is slotted for the Group of Five.”
That would certainly be a stark contrast to the previous CFP model, where the Power Five conferences mostly shared 80% of the base revenue equally.
