Lawson Adding Size to Make His Mark in Year 3

CLEMSON – A Clemson defender is taking a big step with his body in 2024 so he can do the same on the field.

Redshirt sophomore defensive end Jahiem Lawson has seen minimal playing time in his first two seasons, but the third time could actually be the charm. Lawson had two tackles last season, seeing reps in four games.

It wasn’t as much as Lawson had hoped, but he said those opportunities were “very fun.” None bigger than his moments against NC State, in which he saw the field very early.

Arriving on campus, Lawson was far lighter and he spoke after practice about how he’s adding nearly 50 pounds.

“I came in, I was like 210. I’m almosr 250 now. I’m very excited, very excited,” Lawson said. “Just grinding every day I come in, putting the work in, being relentless to be honest.”

Lawson spoke highly of the Clemson nutrition staff in this process, allowing him to make this change without as much difficulty. When asked about how’s impacted him on the field, Lawson lit up.

“Of course. It’s been great and I think I feel better out there. I don’t feel too light, I feel amazing out there when I’m playing,” Lawson said.

As the offseason rolls along, Lawson is pinpointing 250-255 pounds as the range for his weight once August arrives. The defensive end room has seen some new additions in Peter Woods and Caden Story moving over, so these steps are crucial for Lawson to make his mark in 2024.

If he continues this transformation with his body and sits at 255 pounds come the trip to Atlanta, Lawson could be a key part of the rotation and his work will have paid off throughout this offseason.
