NFL Legacy Recruit Recaps ‘Amazing’ Clemson Visit

After returning to Clemson during the 2023 football season, an NFL legacy recruit from Maryland with multiple FBS offers made his way back to Tiger Town earlier this month.

Loyola Blakefield (Towson, Md.) 2025 long snapper/tight end Hunter Solwold was back on campus for an unofficial visit March 13.

“It was amazing!” Solwold told The Clemson Insider. “I loved spending time with all the coaches, they are very welcoming.”

Solwold made the trip to Clemson with his father — former NFL long snapper/tight end Mike Solwold, a two-time Rose Bowl champion at Wisconsin who went on to win a Super Bowl title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2002 season.

“I came with my dad, and we both really enjoyed it!” Solwold said.

Hunter is ranked among the nation’s top long snappers in the 2025 class by Kohl’s Kicking. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound junior holds football offers from Virginia Tech, Maryland and Bowling Green. He also owns a Division I lacrosse offer from St. Bonaventure University.

The Tigers are primarily recruiting him as a long snapper, and he spent most of his time during the visit with Bill Spiers, Clemson’s director of special teams, and special teams player development coach Will Gilchrist.

“Our conversations were amazing and everything overall is great!” Hunter said.

Hunter appreciated the personal attention he and his father received from Gilchrist as soon as they arrived for the visit.

“What really stood out to me,” Hunter said, “was immediately when we got on campus, Coach Gilchrist met us and took us in a golf cart around campus and into the locker room, where we went on the field in the stadium and watched an amazing hype video on the big screen for just us three.”

Hunter has visited Clemson several times overall, including for the Wake Forest game this past season, the NC State game in 2022 and the Dabo Swinney Football Camp last summer.

He plans to get back on campus again this summer, and there’s a lot he likes about Clemson’s program.

“The history and tradition are so strong, the coaches are elite, and there is a sense of family and commitment, which I felt was so important,” he said.
